The mind of CHRIST

At the conclusion of our previous discussion, we recognized the Word’s ability to correct the heart, or the nonspiritual term, the subconscious mind.   The data placed in the heart (subconscious mind) is what will directly influence the soul: consisting of the mind, will, and emotions. The following verse describes this data storage bank as the treasure of the heart.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil:  (Luke 6:24 KJV)

As previously mentioned, we can either let the data of the world be placed in the “treasure of the heart” and influence the soul, OR, we can be transformed by the spirit of God, through the hearing of the Word (time spent in his presence).

Simply put, allow God’s data to be placed in the treasures of the heart.

Consistency in spending time in His presence provides continual nourishment and cleansing to the heart (the subconscious mind).  This means all thoughts and processes that do not line up with the Word become eradicated.  Slowly and surely more and more of the existing data becomes replaced with His truth (God’s data). It is a conversion process. Our mind becomes converted to the mind of Christ.

Prior, I was under the assumption that I automatically received the mind of Christ when I came to know the Lord, however, was startled when I came across this verse:

But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. (Luke 22:32 KJV)

Jesus spoke these words to Peter just prior to His crucifixion, quite a time after Peter's first encounter with Christ.  All the proceeding time spent in the presence of Christ, and the hearing of the word, had caused more and more of the existing Peter to be removed and transformed into the likeness of Christ.

It is the hearing of the word that cleanses us from all prior acquired impurities or wrong thinking (worldly data).

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. (John 15:3 KJV)

                                                                    and

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (Eph 5:26 KJV)

Paul tries to explain this to the Corinthian church.  He reveals that there is an invisible war going on for the dominion of the soul (mind, will, and emotions).

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling

down of strong holds..(2 Cor 10:4 KJV)

He recognizes that what occupies the “treasures of the heart” will directly affect the way you think, feel, and will to do. Therefore, he claims, all previously acquired “worldy data” must line up and submit to the Word (God’s data).

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. (2 Cor. 10:5 KJV)

Again, the more of His data that gets programed into our heart (subconscious mind), the more the soul (conscious mind) will be transformed into his likeness.

It is a continual process until the conscious mind completely thinks as Christ, demonstrates the same feelings, and will earnestly desire to do His will.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (Eph 4:13 KJV)

The New Living Translation better explains :

This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

Supporting text:

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (Ro. 8:29 KJV)

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? ( (Heb 9:14 KJV)

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Php. 2:5 KJV)

O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee? (Jer 4:14 KJV)

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 COR 2:16 KJV)
