Mysteries Revealed

Like most children their age, our girls are always in search of getting their hands on a good mystery book. I too, once shared the same passion.

Often I find myself approaching my biblical devotions with the same search and expectation. I love sharing with them the mysteries that have been revealed to me in my studies.

Just a few days ago, my daughter approached me for support with her devotions. “How do you always find something that grabs your attention? she asked. “I cannot even find something I understand,” she confessed

I happen to be studying John chapter 9, so I invited her to study portions of the chapter with meIt was a story of Jesus giving sight to a blind man. As we reasoned our way through the chapter, I couldn’t help but notice the excitement in her eyes as we uncovered hidden truths, together

Here are a few spiritual lessons we derived from our study...

  1. He saw a man blind from birth (John 9:1)

As the blind man in this story, we are born without spiritual vision. We cannot see and understand the hidden mysteries of the Bible.

  1. And His disciples asked..., who sinned, ..., that he was born blind?” Jesus answered,Neither..., but that the works of God should be revealed in him. (vs.2-3)

God’s main purpose in granting vision to the blind is to give them a revelation of his works. He does this by giving them understanding of the mysteries of GodIt was not the blind man’s fault he did not understand them before.

  1. ...and He anointed the eyes of the blind man...(vs. 6)

Biblically, anointing meant to appoint, to separate, to consecrate. Jesus gives an individual “spiritual vision” to understand the hidden mysteries of his word and thus appoints the individual for special service in his kingdom.

  1. Then He told him, “Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam...(vs.7)

This marks the beginning of a sanctifying work for the individual. The more exposure in the mysteries of God, the more it cleanses the individual's heart.

  1. His neighbors and others who knew him ... asked each other, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” (vs. 8)

When God grants one spiritual vision and performs a sanctifying work in their life, they become a new creation in Christ. Often, they are no longer recognizable by those that previously knew them.

  1. He said, “I am he.” ... they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” ...He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus... (vs 9-11)

The individual now becomes a witness for Christ. Their life is now a testimony.  They share with others of the one-and-only who can give spiritual vision to understand the hidden mysteries of God.
