Constant Flow
I recall my first visit to the CTICU, which was only a week into my job. This section of the hospital was dedicated to the treatment of patients with heart conditions. Most patients were under close monitoring and received intensive care as they recovered from heart surgery. Although my mentor had warned me, I was still taken aback by the complexity and fragility of the patients on this floor. It was unlike any other area of the hospital that I had observed. The many different monitors and complex equipment attached to the patients initially made my head spin. Later, I learned that most of the monitors and medical equipment were used to ensure uninterrupted blood flow to the heart. The heart requires a continuous flow of nutrient-rich blood for the body to function properly. Interestingly, just as the physical heart requires a continuous supply of nutrients, our spiritual heart, or mind, also requires a continuous flow of spiritually rich material, God's word, to thrive and live spiritually.
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. (John 6:53 NSV)
Continuous blood flow also ensures the removal of toxins and wastes from the physical body. In the same way, Jesus Christ's blood (God's word) cleanses our minds from sin and its sinful nature.
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. (John 15:3 WBT)
