Your Own

Lately, I have spent much time alone in the car running errands.  I usually use this time to catch up on my favorite podcasts.  My friend likes to keep me updated on the latest best releases.  She is the queen of podcasts.  Whenever I bump into her, she has a long list she claims is a must.

At one point in my life, I, too, relied entirely on a quick, easy fix. A good podcast or radio broadcast was my primary source of inspiration and encouragement.  Of course, I had select favorites that I knew would never disappoint.  At times, I waited with immense anticipation for their next release.

But when life got difficult and I started facing my own trials, I quickly realized I could not survive solely depending on someone else to give me what I needed to endure.  I was compelled to pursue what they had on my own.

We need spiritual mentors and faith figures we admire, but we cannot endure if we solely build our faith on their relationship with the Father.  Their ministry should only inspire us to cultivate a relationship with the Father of our own.

Notice how the book of Acts describes the following group of listeners…

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Next time you enjoy a good read or indulge in a good podcast message, try taking it one step further.  Don’t just take their word for it.  Examine the scriptures and see if it is genuinely so.  Stand inspired to cultivate a relationship with the father you can call your own.
