Soul-Mate
When we were little girls, my sisters and I loved looking through our mom's photo albums. She would share stories and memories from the past. My mom had a collection of vintage wedding invitations, mostly in shades of brown and white, that we enjoyed browsing through as we tried to recognize the faces in the photos. Unlike the unique invites of today, these were all very similar in style, with two circular photographs and a love verse from the Bible. The most common verse was from the book of Song of Solomon: “I have found the one my soul loves.” Looking through these invitations always prompted me to think about when I would grow up and find the one my soul would love—my soulmate.
Time flew by, and before I knew it, I found myself in adulthood. It all happened way too fast. Despite the many hiccups we faced along the way, my “soulmate” and I were happily married and living the life I had always dreamed of. However, I soon discovered that there was a much deeper yearning in my soul that even my husband, my present “soulmate,” couldn't fulfill. As I matured in my walk with God, I learned that my soul is the non-physical part of my being—the spiritual part of me. While my husband met my physical needs and provided love, shelter, clothing, and care, there was still a void in my soul, an inner need that remained unfulfilled. I felt inwardly discontent, still searching for my true soulmate.
It wasn't until I began spending time in quiet prayer and immersing myself in Scripture that I found the one whom my soul loves. God began meeting the needs of my soul as I devoted time to His word. The knowledge and wisdom I gained fulfilled the deepest needs of my soul. I have found my soul-mate.
"For wisdom will enter your heart, And knowledge will be delightful to your soul;" (Pr. 2:10)
“…it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge,...” (Pr. 19:2)
