His Ways
My friend's daughter, Emily, is truly one of a kind. She’s the oldest and a very responsible young lady. When my friend travels out of town, Emily is always left in charge, with the supervision of another adult, of course. My friend often says that Emily knows exactly how her mom likes things done. Emily is quick to speak up about her mother's ways and doesn’t hesitate to correct another adult. My friend says she’s tried to tell Emily that it doesn't make other adults wrong, there are more than one way to do things, but for Emily, her mom’s way is always the best.
I've learned the same to be true with our walk with our heavenly Father. Life presents us with countless decisions and challenges, and we sometimes have a natural inclination to trust our wisdom and familiar ways. Proverbs says
There is a way that seems right to a man…(Pr.14:12)
But I've discovered that to every problem or decision I face, there's also God's way. It's not that my way of approaching the situation is totally wrong; it's that God's way is best.
My state licensure exam, for instance, was mostly composed of what are called clinical questions. These questions are real-life scenarios. In most cases, all the multiple-choice answers are good ways to fix the problem, but one is the textbook version of the best way, and will always yield the best outcome.
I will show you a still more excellent way. (1 Co. 12:31)
Whenever I face important decisions, my first instinct is to rely on my own understanding. But over time, I’ve learned the power of pausing and asking God to reveal His way. Time and again, I’ve seen how, in the waiting, God brings clarity—He provides a biblical story or a situation that aligns perfectly with mine, and through it, I experience His gentle guidance and direction. With God guiding us, every step will lead us closer to the life He designed for us.
He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths. (Is. 2:3)
