Experience Him
We have already looked at what it means “to know” God and live the true Christian experience in other posts such as the one titled Know Him. For most, knowing God means to have accumulated knowledge about him. While God had always intended for his children to know him by personal experience.
The religious leaders of Jesus’ time were very well hearse in the scriptures. They have accumulated a lot of head knowledge about him, but they did not have the experience.

Frequently when they attempted to confront Jesus and his teaching, they referred to God as the God of their fathers and their great ancestor Moses. They marveled at the things he did for their fathers in the wilderness many decades ago and flashed that into Jesus’ face, stating Moses gave their fathers manna from heaven.
They knew God for what he did for their great ancestors but never were able to experience him on a personal level.
One such religious leader sought out Jesus in private. Jesus began to explain to him what it means to be born of the spirit. He continues with
Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?
Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. (John 3:10-11 NKJV)

Meaning, everything I speak I have first hand experienced. His message was grounded in experience and not just quoted scripture.
The scriptures were alive to him and directly influenced every step of his life here on earth. He was led by the spirit and not by personal ambitions. He was able to fulfill God’s plan for his life by constantly connecting with the father.
I believe that to experience God you must step out of the comfort of just knowing God for what he has done for others. Growing up, I have often seen God do wonders through the life of my mother and many others, but that was their experience and not mine.

When life began turning into directions I was not prepared to take, and despair knocked on my door, I knew that I could not survive on the experiences of others but needed to experience God for myself.
It was a journey indeed, however only when I got serious about seeking his presence, and made it my sole purpose, he began opening up to me from the word.
There is a verse in Jeremiah 33:3…

Looking back, I realize that this was a heart call. Not just words we pray but don’t mean. You have to act on it. Jesus made a statement
from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. (Matt. 11:12 KJV)
I find it clearer in the Russian translation. It goes like this …the Kingdom of Heaven is obtained with persistence. And those that are diligent and serious secure it.
Peter sums it up this way,
For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. ( 2 Pet 1:16 NIV)
Meaning, these are not just made-up stories we are telling you but what we have first-hand experienced!
