Finding certainty in an uncertain World
There’s a common phrase that goes like “What you don’t know can’t hurt you!”.
Essentially stating, you’re better off not knowing most things.
But I want to argue otherwise.
What you don’t know causes uncertainty.
And when you are not certain of something you are more likely to experience the undesirable feelings of doubt, worry, fear, anxiety, and discouragement.
For instance, you have a scheduled follow up doctor visit with your doctor on a recent test. It’s natural for you to feel anxious until you receive the results you have hoped for. Once the results have been confirmed, you are no longer concerned about them.
Therefore, the more certain you are about something, the more you are at rest about it.
Finding the truth about something (becoming certain of it) sets us free from the effects (worry, fear, anxiety) of uncertainty.
Jesus himself declares...
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32 KJV)
I’ve noticed that the worldly perspective is grounded in uncertainty. For instance, a simple elementary riddle I frequently hear my children rehearse "what came first, the chicken or the egg?", confirms that a biblical perspective gives us more of a certain outlook.
For we know according to the book of Genesis, God had first created the chicken and then told it to reproduce.
Therefore, it’s safe to rightfully assume that the more familiar you are with the biblical perspective, the more certainties you will possess. And the more certainties you possess, the more fears and doubts you will dissolve.
Study Daniel chapter 1. Daniel is brought captive under the service of a Babylonian King.
He was a man strongly grounded in the Biblical perspective. They attempted to convert to him to the best worldly perspective of that time...
…Train these young men in the language and literature of Babylon. (Da.1 :4 NLT)… But Daniel was determined not to defile himself….(vs. 8)
But Daniel refused.
Yet, when compared to his secular opponents, Daniel was found to be ten times wiser in all matters presented to him.
In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom. (vs. 20)
For this reason Daniel became chief consultant for many kings following.

When they were stuck in uncertainty, they sought out Daniel for help. In chapter five, the Babylonians describe him as a man with...
…an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts…(vs. 12)
The Bible is full of very applicable truths (certainties), specifically unique to your current uncertainty. The more you become personally acquainted with them, the more at rest you will be.
