What do you Pursue?

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing...(Pr. 13:7 KJV)

It’s no surprise that today’s society is not much different than that of Solmon’s days.   For the most part, we are conditioned to pursue after the things the world puts its highest price tag on. A worldly value system.

For instance, we want the wardrobe of the top fashion bloggers on our social media feed.  We crave the status and influence they have on those that follow them.  We wish for the dreamiest home on Dream Home Makeover, and so on.

A mission to make oneself rich with all the things the world values most.  However the Biblical value system is different, and equates these things to nothing.  The Bible insists, when earthly riches are your ultimate pursuit the soul will suffer emptiness, having nothing.

... there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. (Pr. 13:7 KJV)

The Bible offers a different way and a different value system.  Make yourself poor to chasing wealth, possessions, and status and God will grant you eternal riches.

Turn from pursuing the things the world calls “riches” and God will give you his “spiritual riches”.

humble yourself, and become poor in spirit.

It takes humbling to deny yourself the pursuit of earthly riches.  Yet in return, God promises his riches: wisdom, knowledge, and truth. That which make the soul full.

In fact, Jesus insists, once you make his kingdom and its riches your ultimate pursuit, everything else will be added unto you.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matt. 6:33 NIV)
