Winning at Home
Just a few weeks ago John and Lisa Bevere hosted a podcast called Winning at Home. So I too, decided to take a moment and share a few thoughts on what winning at home has been like for me. I love that as mothers, no matter what the location or the occasion, we often find ourselves conversing and exchanging methods on “winning at home”.
God has given all of us some form of charge over someone.
Who then is the faithful and wise steward [of the estate], whom his master will put in charge over his household,… (Luke 12:42 AM)
A pastor for instance, is given charge over his congregation. A father is given charge over his entire household, and a mother is given charge over her children, etc.
At the very least you may just be put in charge over your own self (the care for your own soul).
But we are all given an area of impact, or a “sphere of influence”.
I’ve discovered that in God’s Kingdom “being in charge” means something entirely contrary to popular opinion.
To be in charge means to count yourself lowest of all, and serve!
It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant…(Matt. 20:26 AMP)
and
…in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. (Phil. 2:3 KJV)
For some time now I’ve been asking God to teach me how to win my children for the Lord. And I was somewhat surprised when he began showing me to simply serve them. I noticed how much more receptive they’ve become, simply because I began to esteem them “higher than myself”.
It may be as simple as getting up and passing them a fork, when you have every right to say, “Get up and get it on your own!”
We have it all figured out as far as reaching people on the mission fields and the needy of our cities. We feed them, cloth them, and then minister to them. But often find it too difficult to apply at home.
…I have made myself a servant to all, so that I can win the more. (1 Co. 9:19 NKJV)
Stick to your Sphere of Influence
It is God who widens our sphere of influence. In his Kingdom, he promotes the faithful in little to become faithful in much (Luke 16:10).
Continue to faithfully serve where you are until God promotes you and entrusts you with more.
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. (Matt. 24:47 NLT)
We are naturally so generous on providing others instructions on how to manage their areas of impact. But only the impact that we’d have if we personally applied those principles at home.
I can’t help but notice how many are quick to correct and critique world leaders, local politicians, or even their own spiritual leaders. Yet, do very little to establish order and an atmosphere of peace in their own household. Where they actually have the authority to do so.
The Bible says that the master visits and checks on the servant when he least expects or is entirely unaware of the visit. Will he find you faithfully doing what he had appointed for you? Can he then promote you to what he has prepared for you?
The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware…(Matt. 24:50 KJV)
