Seperated for him
Growing up, I always preferred the Old Testament over the New Testament. But even then, I had my select favorites. Such as the fascinating stories of the patriarchs of Genesis, and the many ventures of other Old Testament heroes; as Ruth, Gideon, and David.
I would intentionally skip over the books and chapters that seemed uninteresting and irrelevant to me at the time. Specifically, what I felt were endless religious commandments and ordinances.
Ironically, these are the books I presently find fascinating most.
In them I see a beautiful plan of God emerge. One to raise up a priesthood that would be made holy and separated for himself. Specifically, a people that God could use as channels to reach others.
The priests were expected to carefully and diligently carry out specific rituals and ordinances in the temple.
I noticed that every Old Testament ritual has its symbolic place in the life of every New Testament believer today.
One of which, was the priest’s duty to watch over and to keep the vessels of the Temple of the Lord.
And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto the LORD; the vessels are holy also; … Watch ye, and keep them, (Ez. 8:28-29 KJV)
As New Testament believers, we too, are put in charge of watching over and keeping of the Lord’s vessels. While Old Testament priests did this literarily, as New Testament believers we do so figuratively.
In order to be used of God, we are placed as stewards of our inward vessels. We are to carefully and diligently “watch after” the information we allow to enter in. God’s plan has remained the same. They are to be holy and separated for the master’s use. In other words, if we allow him to fill our vessel with his word and truth, he can pour out from it when ministering to others.
… from within him shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38 ASV)
