My Pleasure
The girls and I took a trip out of town just a few weeks ago. My sister had something important to care after, so we happen to bring along my five-year-old niece. On first thought, I feared she would quickly loose interest and demand that we take her back home. But on the contrary, her spunky manner was quite the sport to have around. The girls and I were delighted with her company.
She was effortless and truly a pleasure to escort around.
It’s so natural to assume that going out of the way for someone or a cause might require work and toil on our part. Especially, when it’s more than a simple obligatory favor but really devoting to laboring for the Kingdom of God.
But I’ve also discovered that to be quite the contrary.
There comes an overwhelming feeling of content and satisfaction when you are living in the center of his will. Even when you find yourself going totally out of the way to complete it.
The psalmist writes,
I delight to do Your will, O my God…(Ps. 40:8 KJV)
In other words, it brings me much pleasure to do your will.
Jesus went further and said, to do the father’s will is food and nourishment for me. It is what strengthens me.
My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. (John 4:34 NLT)
I think it’s safe to assume that pleasure and satisfaction are in fact confirmation that you are indeed fulfilling his will.
