Total dependence
documentary series on planet earth. Island of the Sea Wolves has definitely topped as family
favorite.
Besides the girls obsessing over the smallest and cutest of creatures, my husband and I are always amazed how the entire animal kingdom is so divinely designed. Most remarkable for me are the many species that entirely depend on the occurrence of natural events for survival. Regardless of how fierce, swift, or clever they may be.
Although often found in patient waiting, not once have I observed the footage of a creature or group die of starvation.
I was reminded of the Psalmist that wrote
All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time…. you give it to them; … when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. (Ps. 104:27-28 NIV)
Just like the natural world, our inner spirit man is also totally dependent on God for spiritual nourishment and survival.
Often, that too requires patient, quiet waiting and a position of total dependence on God to receive.
My reference Bible calls it “divine supplies”.
My favorite reference of “divine supplies” is found in Genesis 48:15.
Jacob (of the OT) is very old in age and he calls on his son Joseph and his two boys to give his final farewell and blessings. There he quotes
…God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has fed me all my life long to this day,… (Gen 48:15)
Jacob confessed, all my life it was God that daily fed and supplied all the nourishment my spirit needed.
