Trust His Timing
For who [limited by human wisdom] knows what is good for man during his lifetime… (Eccles. 6:12 Am)
I spent some time in the book of Ecclesiastes this week and I remembered my college friend when I stumbled upon this verse.
We spent so many years studying together, that we began sharing much of our personal lives with each other.
Though she was keeping busy with her studies, she wasn’t happy. She loved children and hoped to work with the pediatric population at some point but in the meantime, she was on a mission to have a baby.
She had just gotten married, so it was now or never.
Every unsuccessful attempt of conceiving brought immense heartache. She couldn’t take the waiting so she sought professional help. They advised her to wait as it was only a short time of them trying. But she was convinced otherwise and insisted on IVF.
Long story short she resigned from all her studies, and had a baby. On our visit a month later, she confessed she felt miserable. It was definitely the wrong timing for me, she said.
We all have our perception and wish list of things that we’re convinced would bring us much good and finally make us happy. We establish a time table and get upset when things don’t go according to plan.
Most bible scholars are convinced the book of Ecclesiastes was written by king Solomon in his old age.
It’s quite astonishing, all the wisdom he acquired throughout his lifetime still wasn’t enough to say, “Now I am wise and can take control of my life. I can determine what’s good for me!”.
He strongly insists that we really don’t have the ability to determine what is good for us.
A life that’s submitted under God’s authority accepts that God only knows what is currently good for me. Even though it doesn't entirely fit my limited human understanding.
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him …( Lam. 3:25)
