The Gospel

We just finished up VBS week at church, and the impact it had on our kids was amazing. The older ones are actively discussing and memorizing their verses before bed. Even our youngest, who is usually more reserved, has been so excited and happy, singing the songs over and over again on the way back home. There is something truly special about seeing children engaging with the Gospel message in their language and understanding and singing along to worship songs tailored to them. The influence of the Bible's messages is undeniable.

Mark 6:20 contains a story that resonates with the powerful impact of God's messages, and even non-believers recognized its influence.

Herodias, an ungodly queen, was threatened by its influence on her ruling partner, Herod. The Bible reports, "For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly." (Mark 6:20 KJV)

When Herod heard John, he did many things. His actions were influenced by hearing John. The Gospel directly affects how we act and feel.  Herodias was so aware of its effect, she did everything she could to eliminate this influence from Herod's life, eventually leading to John's tragic fate.
