Pain Reliever
Our daughter really despises going to the dentist, especially when she needs to have Novocaine. She insists that she prefers to endure the pain over the numbing sensation of Novocaine, even though Novocaine is meant to relieve pain. During our last visit, I finally gave in and gave her a pain reliever so that she could overcome her agitation with Novocaine. I gave her pain medicine for her pain medicine.
Pain relievers work wonders in easing our physical discomfort. Although they don't eliminate the root cause of the pain, they do a remarkable job of making it feel like it's gone for the time being until we come to healing.
Yet, there are pains that run much deeper than physical pain, and they can hit us hard from time to time. During those moments, God assures us of the same kind of relief from our inner emotional pains and struggles. His presence is where we can find this relief.
“…but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” (Pr. 1:33 NIV)
The word 'ease' is defined as making something unpleasant, painful, or intense less serious or severe.
As believers, we may assume that a life of ease means without difficulty and pain. However, God doesn't promise a pain-free life; instead, He offers to ease our pain when we seek His presence. When we actively listen and engage with His word, we find comfort and momentary relief until we reach a place of healing.
“You have put me at ease by speaking kindly to your servant…” (Ru 2:13 NIV)
