Hunger Awakened

I never paid much attention to the girls' eating habits before. However, there came a time when I started noticing that one of our daughters wasn't eating well. Unlike the other girls, she never complained of feeling hungry. This got me a bit worried. She wasn't losing weight, but her appetite was noticeably poor. When we sat at the dinner table, I often tried to get her appetite going a little bit. I would talk about how delicious the food was, its amazing flavors, and satisfying texture, hoping she would try it. I knew once she took a bite, she would want more.

And it worked.

As soon as she took a bite, she suddenly realized how hungry she was.

The spiritual appetite of the world is much like that of our daughters—very poor. There seems to be little interest in the things of God. However, as children of God, when we sit at the Lord's table and partake of His spiritual food, we can awaken their senses and stimulate their appetite. We can do this by sharing our personal experiences in God's presence, the spiritual nourishment we receive when we gather, or the satisfaction of spending time alone with Him in personal devotions. These experiences are powerful tools to stir a desire for Him in others. Once they taste it, their appetite for God will be ignited, and they will crave more.

Developing a healthy appetite and hunger is what will drive them to pursue Him continually.

The appetite of laborers works for them; their hunger drives them on. (Pr. 16:26)

Taste and see that the Lord is Good. (Ps.34:8)
