Well Checks

Because my parents immigrated to the U.S. from another country, I have noticed some cultural differences that set them apart. For instance, their view on healthcare is very different. In their home country, people only visit the doctor when they are seriously ill; there is no concept of routine check-ups. As a result, my parents struggled for a long time to understand the necessity of having regular well checks, even when they felt healthy.

However, everything changed when one of my parents became terminally ill.  We definitely took seeing the doctor more seriously. Suddenly, every visit became very important. We diligently sought and followed all of the doctor's advice.

Regular check-ups are important because they allow doctors to catch chronic illnesses early, monitor essential health markers, and provide patients with valuable guidance on preventive care.

I've noticed a similar pattern among many Christians. Some actively seek God on a regular basis, dedicating time for prayer, immersing themselves in Scripture, and consistently meeting with Him in their daily lives. And yet there is a larger group that only reaches out to God during moments of serious trouble, coming to Him from a place of desperation, often when faced with challenges such as illness, loss, or overwhelming stress. Yet, God yearns to instruct, guide, and support us throughout our entire journey, offering wisdom and comfort. Don’t wait until you find yourself in a crisis to pay diligent attention to Him.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.  Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.  (Ps. 32:9)
