His secrets revealed

Why is maintaining a devotional life so important?

Maintaining regular quiet times with God is much like a healthy marriage relationship.  Because of ongoing contact and communication, you are constantly aware of what your spouse is up to.

Likewise, stillness and solitude in the prayer room fosters ongoing open conversation with God. For the most part, there are no unexpected surprises that will shake your world.  God will always forewarn you of a coming storm.

Abraham had a steady, ongoing devotional life.

And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: (Gen.19:27 KJV)

Therefore, he was continually in the loop of what God was doing.  God had forewarned Abraham of the coming destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah …

The LORD said, “Shall I keep secret from Abraham [My friend and servant] what I am going to do,… (Gen. 18: 17 AB)

God frequently will reveal the same thing to more than one person.  It’s always refreshing to hear what you have heard confirmed by someone who also consistently waits on God.  Just recently someone had testified how often they come to church and the Pastor’s sermon is exactly the message they have received earlier that week.

Notice, Lot (Abraham’s nephew) also received the same message and warning from God regarding the coming judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah.  Scripture confirms that he was sitting at the gate of the city.

Lot sat in the gate of Sodom… (Gen.19:1 KJV)

Unlike the rest of the citizens of that city, he was watchful and on the lookout.  And thus received the same messengers with the same message and forewarning.

Surely the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants… (Am. 3:7 BSB)

Elisha was also a man whom was in constant communication with God.  He was always in the loop of what God was doing.  Notice, he was somewhat surprised when the Shunammite women (the household from which he frequently visited and lodged ) had come to him with her son that had suddenly died.

…the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me. (2 Ki. 4:27 BSB)

Shortly after, her son was restored.
