something old, something NEW
While pursuing a health professions degree, I studied human anatomy and its physiological makeup. It never ceased to amaze me on how every aspect of our being has been so uniquely, and purposely designed. The most fascinating perhaps is the mind and its countless functions.
Recently, I stumbled upon a study conducted by a group of neuroscientists at the University of California. It proposed that the brain has a natural craving and “thirst for knowledge”. It essentially proved that as you grasp or comprehend a new concept, your brain triggers and releases a feel-good “pleasure” response.
It’s no wonder that modern day tik-toks, reels, shorts etc. are such a big thing. The brain is constantly stimulated with new information and knowledge, it so naturally craves.
In the book of Proverbs, we find that wise Solomon had also discovered this concept.
…it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, (Pr. 19:2 NKJV)
Notice “to be”.
Meaning, it is not good for the soul to continue, or to exist without continually acquiring new knowledge.
God’s intent for mankind however has always been to satisfy this natural soul craving by the pursuing and understanding the knowledge of God. In other words, discovering something new about Him and His ways we haven’t already known .
God wants to continually reveal himself in a new way.
Jesus demonstrated this best through-out his ministry here on earth.
He taught directly out of scripture and combined newly revealed truths (mostly in the form of a parables) he received directly from the father, to satisfy man’s natural craving for new knowledge, and combined it with old biblical wisdom to better reach his listeners.
He later told his disciples that a true religious teacher is one who does likewise…
Every teacher of religious law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a homeowner who brings from his storeroom new gems of truth as well as old. (Matt. 13:52 NLT)

if you incline your ear to wisdom
and direct your heart to understanding
if you truly call out to insight
and lift your voice to understanding,
if you seek it like silver
and search it out like hidden treasure,
then you will discern the fear of the LORD
and discover the knowledge of God.
For the LORD gives wisdom;
from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity,
to guard the paths of justice
and protect the way of His saints.
Then you will discern righteousness
and justice and equity—every good path.
For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will delight your soul.
