partner with HIM

If you gone through any formal education, you know there are certain assignments that you are assigned to complete on your own and then other assignments you are encouraged to complete with a partner or small group of people.

It’s only a matter of time that you recognize the individuals that immediately take lead and guide the execution of that assignment from start to finish.  And of course, the few others that simply remain passively present, applying minimal effort.

It drove me insane when there were the select few that rarely made an appearing to the set group meetings, yet their names were always included with the rest of the group.

I have discovered that when God calls individuals to partner with him, he wants to be the one to take lead and orchestrate the assignment from start to finish.  He simply invites us to tag along and go for the ride.

And oddly enough, I often find my name just added to an assignment he has entirely completed.  I simply was present and yielded myself to him.

When Jesus was here on earth, he claimed

Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. (John 5:19 NIV)

To see what the Father is doing, is to accept what he divinely orchestrates and brings into your life.   You don’t go looking for it, it comes looking for you.  Dr. Tony Evans calls it the "divine intersections and interruptions" of life.

They often come in the form of random encounters, such as a conversation at a playground.  Or unexpected bump-in with an old friend you later find is struggling through something.

I can do nothing on my own initiative or authority. (John 5:30 AB)

Initiative is to initiate something on your own.

We often think that it’s us that must initiate exploits and ask God to come bless what we are doing. Yet on the contrary, God invites us to come and see what he is doing.

It’s our simple yielding and obedience that allows God to accomplish what he himself has purposed to accomplish.

Charles Spurgeon once said he found that it was those moments when he was least prepared and thus most yielded and reliant, that were most effective for the Kingdom.

I have to admit yielding is sometimes challenging, we like feeling in control.

Most recently, a small group of women from a neighboring city had invited me to share.  I tried to prepare and found myself meditating on certain topics I have previously studied.  But while in my prayer closet, I clearly heard the Holy Spirit say "Don’t even pre-meditate, I will give you what to say in that hour". And when I found myself rehearsing again, again I felt that was what I wanted to say and not what the Holy Spirit intended to say.

Our discussion went in so many different directions that evening, I would have never foreseen it. It was refreshing at the least to see how many were encouraged.  Yet again, I truely felt like that partner that simply showed up and listed my name on the assignment.  He orchestrated the entire thing from start to finish.

 All glory to Him!

Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.  (Ex. 4:12 KJV)

If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95 percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95 percent of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference.
