mature in faith

Our youngest daughter Camila, is almost 3 years old.  I enjoy every growing phase of my children but the toddler phase is definitely the most fun and my favorite.  At this age they are convinced they rule the family household. Camila will often give us orders, and if we don’t fulfill those requests she replies with, “Fine, you’re not my friend anymore!”.

Or she begins a countdown “Mom, I’m counting to three! Oneee - twoooo - threeee” she says.

As I recall the initial phases of my faith journey, I remember my prayers were much like Camila’s requests, “God if only you would do this one thing for me, my faith and confidence in you will grow”.

I was convinced that faith was a direct result of God answering my prayers and requests.

Too many claim they lost faith because at some point God did not grant their most heartfelt requests.

But like Camila, I had much to learn.

Every toddler eventually has to understand that it’s really the other way around.  It’s the parents that are in charge, and they make the commands.

Our faith in God becomes established when we seek out his commands for us, and obey them.

Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be establishedbelieve His prophets, and you shall prosper.” (2 Chr. 20:20 NKJV)

He wants to guide and discipline us by his word.   It will always do exactly what it says it will do.

As we experience and test him on his word, we develop a mental track record of his doings and faithfulness.

And thus, our faith and confidence in him become established.

And so, we begin to spiritually grow and mature.

 Supporting Text

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. (1 Co. 13:11 NIV)

If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the LORD Almighty. (Mal. 1:6)
