The Remnant

A while back, my brother-in-law joined the state police academy. The screening process was a major challenge to overcome. Then came the physical training, which we referred to as boot camp. That was even tougher. He would leave for the academy on Monday and return on Friday. Every weekend, he would share the challenges he faced that week. It was rough. The most tragic incident was when a young man, unaware of his underlying heart condition, collapsed and passed away during one of their drill routines. Upon completing the academy, only a few graduates remained and successfully passed. The police academy is undeniably challenging, but it's a necessary process that ensures the officers will be well-prepared to carry out their duties.

In the book of Micah, there is a small reading titled The Lord's Plan. It goes as follows…

“I will gather together those who are lame, those who have been exiles, and those whom I have filled with grief. Those who are weak will survive as a remnant; those who were exiles will become a strong nation. Then I, the LORD, will rule from Jerusalem as their king forever.” (Micah 4:6-7 NLT)

Micah uncovers the Lord's plan for those who endured tough times and hardship, those who have been deeply hurt and filled with grief. "They will survive as a remnant". I found several definitions of the term "remnant" and discovered that the most suitable Biblical definition refers to a group of people who remain loyal to God after enduring a period of hardship. God declares that once they have endured the challenges of life, they will survive as his subordinates. They will form his chosen group to carry out the duties of his kingdom.
