Before Christ

Some time ago, one of our daughters came home from school and said, "Mom, did you know they want to remove BC and AD from the Gregorian calendar?" I told her I wasn’t surprised, as efforts to replace these acronyms in our dating system have been ongoing for as long as I can remember.

Our conversation was brief, but it made me think about how significant Christ's birth was and how it has forever marked history. Christ's birth was a single defining moment that divided all of history into two distinct eras: BC, which stands for "Before Christ," and AD, which stands for "Anno Domini," a Latin term meaning "Year of Our Lord."

At that moment, I felt a deep connection to my own life. Much like history, my journey has also been shaped by Christ and can be divided into two distinct eras: my life before encountering Him, which I refer to as my BC, and the transformative period that followed, known as my AD.

Though I was always "a Christian," during my BC era, I felt hopeless and distant from God. My life lacked purpose and meaning. But everything changed in a defining moment when I encountered His presence while studying his word and devoting myself to prayer.  He began a transformative process in my life. I entered a new life and a new era, "The Year of our Lord" era, my AD.   My life was now connected to his presence.  As I began to draw near to Him, He began to fill me with hope, meaning, and purpose.

Friend, are you feeling hopeless and alone?  Do you lack purpose and meaning? You may still be living in your BC era. He promises to make himself known to those who diligently seek Him. If you allow Him, He will forever change the course of your life, and you will enter a new era filled with hope, purpose, and meaning.

…old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Co. 5:17)

“Behold, I am creating new heavens and a new earth; And the former things [of life] will not be remembered or come to mind.”  (Is. 65:17)
