His word Inscribed on the Heart
Our previous discussion stressed the importance of hearing the voice of the Lord, and not the voice of the enemy. We also identified that when we come to Church we learn to hear his voice with the heart (burning of the heart). This in fact is a Biblical concept and not my idea.
In the OT, God is determined to free his children from bondage and bring them into a place of freedom. He begins by calling Moses in the wilderness. Moses sees a burning bush from which the Lord speaks to him.
And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him. (Ex 3:3 KJV)
Prior to bringing them into the promised land, God gives his people commandments to live by so that they would not sin.
Likewise in the New Testament God wants to communicate with us. The purpose remains the same. He wants to liberate and lead us from the bondage of sin into the victorious christian life. However, it’s no longer an outward/ physical burning bush and physical commandments that he uses to speak, but an inward burning and the writing of the commandments on our heart.
In the book of Acts is provided for us a description of how this occurs.
Two disciples are traveling on the road to Emmaus, discussing the events that had recently occurred. And Jesus himself drew near and begins to explain and connect to them the scriptures, in a way they have never understood them before.
So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. (Luke 24:16 KJV)
Later, when Jesus had broken the bread and their eyes were open, they said, didn’t our hearts burn within us when he was expounding on God’s word.
And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? (Luke 24:31-32 KJV)
When we come to Church, the individual ministering the word begins connecting for us scripture upon scripture. If you are attentive, the heart will burn. Meaning you become excited about what you have just heard. In the Church I go to, you can often hear the people who are indeed getting fed by the word. Often, they will audibly express and confirm what has been said with an “Amen!” or “Come on”. These are the ones who will go home filled and changed on the inside. God has written his truths (commandments) on their heart. These are the truths that will help them with victory over sin.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (Ps. 119:11 NIV)
Notice, that it wasn’t until later that the disciples had come to the realization that it was in fact Jesus that spoke to them. Likewise, as you reflect back upon what was said, you can honestly confirm it was Jesus speaking to the heart from the word that was given by the minister. Other times it can be the combination of many ministers. For instance the message is released by the worship team, then later confirmed by one or more other ministers following, and so on.

But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their minds and inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people. (Je 31:33 NLT)
